Barely hours after alleged cases meant for the Galaxy Note 7 cropped up online, the first leaked picture of the upcoming phablet has surfaced online. The picture comes courtesy of the folks at Android Authority, who were sent the image by tipster @OnLeaks. The leakster does have a pretty impressive track record with leaks in the past, so we are fairly confident that the leaked image is indeed the real deal.
The leaked image actually shows the front panel of the Galaxy Note 7 and not an actual working prototype. Still, the front panel does help confirms a number of details. Firstly, we can clearly see that the display is curved on both sides, just like the Galaxy S7 Edge and previous 'Edge' devices from last year. Another major feature that has been confirmed thanks to the leaked image is the iris scanner. We can see that the top bezel of the phablet has three circular cutouts, which will be used for the three lenses that will be used to ensure accurate recognition. And since the top bezel is now heavily crowded thanks to the iris sensors, the Galaxy Note 7 will be the first Samsung flagship device to not feature the Samsung logo on the top bezel. Of course, it will also be the first Samsung flagship smartphone with an iris scanner and the first Galaxy Note flagship to feature a dual-curved edge display.
While the complete specifications of the Galaxy Note 7 are yet to be confirmed, some of the key specs have been confirmed thanks to another trusted leakster Evan Blass. The confirmed specs include a 5.7" Quad HD 1440 x 2560 resolution Super AMOLED display, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of expandable internal storage, 12MP rear camera with an f/1.7 aperture lens and Dual Pixel technology, 5MP front-facing camera with an f/1.7 aperture lens, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and an iris scanner. The leakster also confirmed three color options for the device – Black, Silver, and Blue.
