S5 Intermittent Sound
Problem: Recently noticed screen cracked near opposite location of speaker. Now the sound is intermittent on incoming calls. Did the screen cracking affect the sound or is there another problem? Have tried soft reboot, and have tried resetting the volume to no avail.
Solution: It's possible that the crack is affecting the sound quality of the phone. The pressure that caused the crack could also have affected the sound module of the device aside from the display. What I suggest you do is to verify first if the issue is caused by a glitch in the phone software by backing up your phone data and doing a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything on the phone yet. Check first if the issue still occurs. If it does then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 No Sound After Getting Wet
Problem: My phone recently got wet from the inside, I took the battery out and submerged it in rice for about 3 days. It turned on and everything else is working properly. The only thing is that there is no sound coming from my phone whatsoever. No music, no calls, not even with the ear buds. When I try to make calls, the calls go through, but nothing can be heard from either end of the call. I've tried using different ear buds with the phone to see if I could hear anything and it still doesn't work. Please help!
Solution: Since your phone got wet then this is most likely a hardware related issue already. Try checking first if the phone software has anything to do with this issue by backing up your phone data then doing a factory reset. If the issue still occurs after the reset then the water may have damaged the sound circuit of your phone. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.
S5 No Sound Only working With Headphones
Problem: My sounds were working fine until this morning. I turned off the phone, turned it back on, and now I have no audible ring, no keypad tones, and I can't hear anything when online. When I plug headphones in, I can hear sounds. I have turned the phone off and on, removed the battery and sim card and put everything back. Still no sound. The phone hasn't been dropped, nor gotten wet. No new software has been installed recently. Everything else seems to be functioning fine.
Solution: Have you noticed if the headphones icon is present in the phone screen? If it is then the phone could be stuck in headphones mode making the sound only work when using a pair of headphones. Try cleaning the headphone port of your phone using a can of compressed air to get rid of dirt or debris that could be present. This could cause the sound issue that you are experiencing. You should also try inserting and removing for a couple of time a pair of headphones on the port then check if this solves the problem.
If the issue persists then one last troubleshooting step you can do is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the problem still occurs after the reset then I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center.
S5 Sound Notification Always Active
Problem: Ever since the update, my phone doesn't stay on vibrate. I like to keep it on vibrate when I'm at work and silent/vibrate at night while I'm sleeping. Yet, I won't even have to touch it and it automatically turns the sound on. I've noticed the sound comes on if I get a text, or an app updates, or I get some type of notification. I've tried playing around with the sound and notifications, but obviously nothing has worked. All I want is it to stay on vibrate! Thanks for your help!
Related Problem: All of a sudden phone will only vibrate despite many different attempts to change settings. Also at the same time the speaker stopped working. Soft reboot and manipulation of many settings have not fixed the problem.
Solution: If you have set the phone to vibrate and the phone still uses sound notifications then the problem could be caused by some form of old software data that is still left in your phone and is causing a conflict with the new software version. I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset to resolve this matter.
S5 Loud Hum During Calls
Problem: During a phone conversation, I get a loud hum that blocks the caller's voice. This happens with most calls, and is getting more frequent! It causes me to not be able to hear about a full sentence of the conversation. I have reduced vibration intensity, and closed gestures. I also did 2 hard shut downs. Thanks for the great forum!
Solution: Try checking first if the problem is caused by background interference by trying calls in other locations. If the issue occurs wherever location you are at then the issue is most likely phone related. Try doing a factory reset first to eliminate any software issues that could be causing this problem. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing the reset. If the reset doesn't fix the problem then this is could be a hardware issue already. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.
