Samsung Galaxy Note 7 Will Go on Sale Starting August 2

We told you yesterday that Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy Note 7 will be officially introduced on the 2nd of next month. However, according to a Korean report, the phablet will be available for purchase on the exact same day.

While the report doesn't specify which markets will receive the Galaxy Note 7 on the same day of announcement, it mentions that Samsung has secured shipments of the Galaxy Note 7 units for launch day. It does sound very much possible as Samsung traditionally ships its flagship devices soon after announcement, much quicker than most other smartphone makers on the market. The main reason behind the move is said to be the 2016 Rio Olympics. In case you aren't aware, Samsung is a worldwide Olympic Games 2016 partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category. Since the games open on August 5, Samsung will be able to actively promote the Galaxy Note 7 during the games this year.

An early launch would definitely benefit Samsung as it would give the Galaxy Note 7 the early lead over the Apple iPhone 7 Plus, which is expected to be the phablet's toughest rival and is likely to make its debut in the market by September. This was the main reason why Samsung preponed the launch of the Galaxy Note 5 last year, and it quite clearly paid off as the Galaxy Note 5 proved to be much more popular worldwide than the iPhone 6s Plus from Apple.

Based on whatever we know about the Galaxy Note 7 so far, it is going to be a beast in terms of hardware. It is expected to feature a 5.7-inch sized dual-curved edge 1440 x 2560 Quad HD Super AMOLED display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 821/Exynos 8893 SoC, 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM, 12MP rear camera with Dual Pixel tech, 5MP selfie camera, an iris scanner, USB Type-C port, improved S-Pen with new software features, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and a 3600 or 4000mAh capacity battery. In Europe, the phablet is expected to be priced at 849 EUR, which suggests that the US pricing will be upwards of $800.
