S5 Wi-Fi Will Not Connect

Problem: WiFi will not connect. Over the past several days the WiFi would be connected but then disconnect, flip back on and off. Now it will not connect at all. Thanks for your help!

Solution: Does this issue only occur for a particular Wi-Fi network or does it occur when trying to connect to different Wi-Fi networks? If it occurs in only one network then try checking if the problem is caused by the router by power cycling it ( turn it off for a minute then turn it back on). You should also check if other devices can connect to this particular network. Another thing that you should do is to delete the particular Wi-Fi connection from your phone. Once deleted restart the phone and the router then add the Wi-Fi connection again.

One other factor that you should consider is that a third party app you installed in your device is causing this problem. To check if this is the case start your phone in Safe Mode. While in this mode the pre-installed apps of your device are the only ones that are allowed to run. If you are able to connect to Wi-Fi in this mode then the problem could be caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

One last troubleshooting step to consider should the above steps fail is a factory reset. Make sure to backup your phone data before doing this.

S5 Wi-Fi Not Connecting

Problem: Wifi not connecting at my sister's house even though wifi is working on all other devices.  At home my wifi connects no problems.  Also keep getting a popup that says Amazon Suite has stopped working.  I have now idea what that is and I don't use any amazon apps.  I just want to connect to the wifi at my sister's house like I normally do.  Tried clicking on forget and that didn't help.  The only thing I haven't tried is resetting my phone.  Verizon kept telling me to click on reset network setting but I don't have that option on my phone.  Got here this morning and still can't connect to wifi….login page will not load at all but I was able to sign in my sons tablet no problem.  Ready to pull my hair out

Solution: Have you tried starting the phone in Safe Mode then checking if you are able to connect? If you can connect to the Wi-Fi without any issues then the problem could be caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the problem still occurs even in Safe Mode then follow the troubleshooting steps listed below. Move to the next step should the problem still occur.

  • Delete the Wi-Fi connection from your phone. Restart your phone and your sister's router. Once both devices have started search for the Wi-Fi connection and connect to it.
  • Wipe the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode.
  • Backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Feels Hot When Using Mobile Data

Problem: I have bought used samsung s5. It is working well. The internet work superbly on wifi but when i use mobile data (facebook, messenger and whatsapp) the mobile screen feels hot. I have recently done factory restore 3 days ago.. any suggestion?

Solution: It's quite normal for the phone to get hot when connected to a mobile data connection as compared to when it is connected using a Wi-Fi connection. There is however a problem if you experience an excessive amount of heat most especially in the phone screen while connected to mobile data. If this occurs then this could be a hardware issue already. I suggest you have your phone checked at a service center if this is the case.

S5 4G Greys Out

Problem: I've had this problem before, jumping from 4.4.2 to 5.0, when I switch off wifi to use mobile data, the 4G logo just stays greyed out, despite having several bars of connection. It would randomly come back before, but now I need the phone and connection and any tips to force it back would be great.

Solution: It's possible that some form of corrupt temporary data is causing this issue. Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode then check if the issue still occurs. Another factor to look into is that a certain app installed in your phone is causing this to happen. To check if this is the case start your phone in Safe Mode. Check if the issue occurs in this mode. If it doesn't then it is most likely caused by an app. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above steps fails to fix the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Mobile Data Not Connecting

Problem: I recently switched plans. I went from a t-mobile plan to now a t-mobile family plan. I made the switch a month or so ago and I have always been able to use data wherever I went until yesterday. My internet is fine but my data will not connect. I try to refresh my internet search and it fails again. It is now summer and I really need help because I will be out of town and need to use data a lot. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Solution: Try to contact your service provider first and inquire if you have an active mobile data subscription. While you have them on the line you should also ask if there are any network issues in your area that could prevent you from using your mobile data subscription.

Once you have cleared the above issue it's time to troubleshoot the phone. Start by checking the APN setting of your device. Make sure it matches the one your carrier is using. Next, start the phone in Safe Mode then check if you are able to go online using your mobile data connection in this mode. If you are able to then the problem is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the issue still persists at this point then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

S5 Can't Set APN

Problem: Hi there. I just bought new galaxy S5 for my dad from Amazon. The phone is T-Mobile phone, but my dad using Simple Mobile and they use the same towers. My issue is network data internet isn't working. I have 4g sign and APN settings set to T-Mobile LTE, so I added Simple Mobile APN saved and restarted. Still no internet and mms . So I tried again going to APN setting and it was set to T-Mobile. I switched to simple mobile again by tapping on it, in couple of seconds it's going back to T-Mobile settings again and again every time I'm trying to switch. I don't know what else to try. Please help.

Solution: Try to check if you are able to delete the T-Mobile APN setting. This way the phone will not be able to revert to this setting once you have chosen the Simple Mobile APN.

S5 Call And Data Not Working Simultaneously

Problem: I recently purchased an unlocked Samsung Galaxy s5 originally from Verizon.  I activated it under my metro pcs plan, now using t mobile satellites from my understanding.  Whenever I make a photo me call, I cannot use my data.  Why is that?  I would have a few bars of reception and as soon as I make a phone call, I see the bars indicating the reception on my phone drop to none.  I am unable to access internet when on the phone.  As soon as I hang up the call, I immediately get a few bars of reception again.  Can I make calls and use data at the same time with Samsung Galaxy s5?

Solution: Try enabling advanced calling in your phone then do a reboot.

  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap More Networks or Tethering & Networks.
  • Tap Mobile Networks.
  • Tap the VoLTE Call setting to turn it to On
