S5 Not Enough Storage In SD Card

Problem: Get "Not enough storage space" when moving app to SD card.

Specifics:

  • Storage: 5.86 MB internal

On device:

  • Internal storage: 13.28 GB used of 16.00 GB
  • SD Card:  1.33 GB used of 29.80 GB

SD Card is 32 GB Samsung EVO Class 10/UHS-1 installed 6/17/16.  No formatting was done when card was installed. Several apps and media folders moved to SD card before problem started occuring. Soft reset was performed.

Solution: In this case you need to verify if the issue is caused by the microSD card or the phone itself.

To check if the problem is caused by the phone you can start by wiping the cache partition of the device from the recovery mode. This will delete the temporary data in the phone which could be causing this problem.

Unfortunately, the only way to check if the problem is caused by the card is to format it. Make sure to backup any important data stored in the card before doing the format. Once the format is complete try to check if you are able to move the app without any problems.

If the above steps fail then should consider doing a factory reset. Take note that this will delete your phone data so make sure to have a backup copy first. You should also try using a different microSD card.

S5 Phone Memory Nearly Full

Problem: My memory on my phone is almost fully taken up. Recently I bought a 64GB SD card, and transferred all of my photos, and as many of my apps as it would allow onto the card – however my phone still says I have used up 95% of the data available on my phone.  I don't understand how this can be, especially when I just moved so many files onto the card.

Solution: Your phone might have a lot of cached data stored in it. Try clearing this cached data by starting the phone in recovery mode then wiping its cache partition from here. Once this is done check how much storage space you have in your device.

Sometimes apps, such as gaming apps, will eat up a lot of storage space. Try to check  all of the downloaded apps in your phone and see which of them uses up a lot of storage space. You can try to move this app to the microSD card ( if permitted) or you can try to uninstall this app to free up internal storage space.

S5 No Files Found After Marshmallow Update

Problem: After the Marshmallow update, I kept getting prompted to update Google Play, but there was no way to update it for nearly 2 weeks. Yesterday I finally got the ability to update Google Play, and now when I connect my phone via USB or Bluetooth to my computer or car, it states there are no files found. I can no longer sync my phone to my car or my computer to transfer photos, music, or any other file. I have tried the soft reset, but nothing seems to help fix this issue. I'd be grateful for any help you could give.

Solution:  Are the files available when you check them using your phone? If the phone can't detect the files then they may have been deleted. If the files are present then this could be an access issue. When connecting the phone to your computer slide down the display starting from the top part of the phone. Press on connected as media device. Press on Media device (MTP) until this function is turned on. You should now be able to access the files.

S5 SD Card Unexpectedly Removed

Problem: I recently started getting memory sd card messages " SD card unexpectedly removed. Unmount SD card before removing to avoid data loss". I checked and the card socket is in good condition and fit snuggly. I then proceeded to take out the memory card and inserted it again , I managed to download the data on there to my computer. I then formatted the card on the phone but this message still pops up constantly. any help please?

Solution: Try wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode as this error message could be caused by a corrupt temporary data in the phone. If the problem still occurs then try using a different microSD card to check if the current card is causing the problem.

If the above steps fail then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.
