Consumer Reports put the Galaxy S7 Active — a phone that should be able to withstand water immersion "up to 5.0 feet for up to 30 minutes" — to its water immersion test. It failed. It put another Galaxy S7 Active to its test. That one broke, too. The magazine decided that it could not recommend the phone to its readers.
Samsung released a statement in light of that aversion, reading:
The Galaxy S7 active passed rigorous tests to ensure IP68 certification for water resistance.
Samsung stands behind this water resistance certification, and will replace any Galaxy S7 active under its standard limited warranty, should water damage occur.
Not all Galaxy S7 Actives will end up lasting under five feet of water for half an hour. Even so, having two phones fail an immersion test simulating "just under five feet" of water in succession just doesn't look good. And considering that those who want the phone may have had to switch to AT&T and shell out $800 for the thing, the least those customers might do is worry. Just a little. Until their phone drowns.
How far that limited warranty will get you if your Galaxy S7 Active conks out with a messed up display and useless buttons is up to Samsung, though.
