Note 4 Lag In Sending Text Messages

Problem: Hi. I just recently updated my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and now I have the android version 5.1.1. To be honest, I don't see any changes on the new things (if any). The one major problem that I am having is that my text messages lag when I try to send them. Lag to the point where I would have to "try again" like 5 times when it should send right away. I've tried to do the soft reset, that didn't work. I tried to clear the cache, that didn't work. I've tried to restart my phone, that didn't work. I've tried to turn my phone off and turn it back on, that didn't work. I've tried to close the apps, that didn't work.  I don't know what to do. If you can please help where my texts can be sent right away, that would be great because I tend to text a lot.

Solution: Since you have already tried clearing the cache and data of your phone which didn't work then the next thing to do is a factory reset. This is a highly recommended troubleshooting step that should be done if an issue occurs right after a software update. What this does is it erases any old software data that could still be in your phone and is causing a conflict with the new software version resulting in this issue. Don't forget to backup your phone data before doing the reset.

Note 4 Lag When Sending Text To One Person

Problem: So for some reason, when I text this one person, my phone freezes up and lags most of the time. Like as soon as i open the message, it freezes. When i start to type it freezes. When i send it, it lags, freezes for couple of seconds, then sends/ But it doesn't happen with anyone else. Never had this problem before either. Does it have to do with the fact that maybe i sent too many messages to that one person? Is there anything to do without deleting the messages? Thank you

Solution: This issue could be caused by the particular message thread itself. Try clearing the cache and data of the messaging app and see if this works. If it doesn't then you really need to try to delete the messaging thread and start a new one. Make sure to backup the text messages first before doing this.

Note 4 Not Receiving Text Messages

Problem: Hi, I have been having problems sending text messages but not receiving them. I have moved from an iPhone but initially had no issues in sending texts. Also I have read previous posts which say to clear cache however I have found that there is no applications manager anywhere on the phone therefore I don't know what to do. Is there any way to get applications manager on to the phone? Thank you for your time.

Solution: You can find the application manager from settings. After clicking on it find the messaging app then clear its cache and data.

One other thing to consider is that your previous phone was an iPhone. It's possible that your iMessage account is still active and your friends who are texting you using an iPhone are sending the message using iMessage. You will need to deregister from iMessage to resolve this matter.

To deregister when you still have access to your iPhone

  • Transfer your SIM card to your iPhone.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Tap Messages.
  • Turn iMessage off. Go back to Settings.
  • Tap FaceTime.
  • Turn FaceTime off. Exit Settings.

To deregister when you don't have your iPhone

Note 4 Text Messaging Stops Working

Problem: My text messaging will stop working after about a dozen texts and I have to keep restarting my phone.  I will be texting, I will get an error message that says messaging is no longer working and my texting screen will go blank.  I can bring up text messages, but it's a blank screen that says no messages and I have no contacts listed.  I can type in a contact, and then type my text but it doesn't send.  Right before this happened, my dad sent an email that said toys r us with an attachment.  I opened it, because I though he sent  a gift card for my son who just graduated.  He didn't send anything.  So I don't know if that had something to do with this.  If it was a virus or other.  ATT recommends something that will wipe my phone entirely.  Before doing that, I was wondering if you have seen this issue before.  Thanks

Solution: This issue is most likely caused by some form of corrupt data. Try clearing the cache and data first of the messaging app then check if the issue still occurs. If it does then proceed with wiping the cache partition of your phone from the recovery mode. Restart your phone after this then check if the issue still occurs.

You should also check if an app installed in your phone is causing the problem by starting your phone in Safe Mode. In this mode only the pre-installed apps are allowed to run while apps you downloaded are disabled. If the issue does not occur then it is most likely caused by an app you downloaded. Find out what app this is and uninstall it.

If the above steps fail to resolve the problem then I suggest you backup your phone data then do a factory reset.

Note 4 Issue Receiving Text Messages

Problem: Hello I have Been having issues receiving text messages on my Note 4 for a few months now. It usually happens with Att and sprint users, or iPhone users. I reset my phone everyday and only have about 36 text threads. Three of them pretty large but lately I've deleted about 6000 messages and there's been many times where people think I'm ignoring them and will send me a screenshot showing they replied and I never got it. I have recently updated the software and it seemed to make my phone go a little slower as well. When I have also tried to delete those large text threads, it will either force close or say it's deleting for hours but won't.

Solution: You need to check first if the phone software is causing this issue. The quickest way to do this is to backup your phone data then do a factory reset. Once the reset is complete do not install anything in your phone yet. Try to check if the issue still occurs.

If the problem still occurs then this could be account related. You may want to try using another SIM card in your phone then check if the issue occurs with the new card.
